A Week with the GDP 2025/26
The Association of German-Speaking Planetariums (GDP) and the International Planetarium Society (IPS), together with the Association of Austrian Planetariums (GÖP), are announcing this year’s winner of “A Week with the GDP”. For the first time, the Association of Austrian Planetariums is offering a candidate the opportunity to take part in the well-known exchange programme in Austria. This year’s winner is Jason Trump from the USA. Jason Trump, Head of Education at the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City, Utah, will spend a week working with pupils, teachers and the general public as a guest of the GÖP. As a specialist in educational programmes and former Head of Public Outreach for NASA’s PUNCH mission, he is deeply involved in educational and outreach projects. Jason Trump will be in Austria from 28 September to 4 October 2026, where he will teach pupils on a topic of his choice from the fields of astronomy and space sciences.
Peter Habison, President of the GÖP: “We are delighted to warmly welcome Jason Trump to the Austrian planetarium and cultural scene. During the planned week, we will visit some of Austria’s planetariums with him and, together, develop and present a talk for a school class in the ‘Public Space’ mobile planetarium. The tour begins in Vienna, continues to Linz to the spectacular ‘Deep Space 8K’ at the Ars Electronica Centre, and will conclude at the newly redesigned Your Dome in Tyrol/Schwaz.”

More about GÖP and IPS:
The Austrian Planetarium Association (GÖP) is a non-profit organisation based in Tyrol. The history of the association dates back to 2001, while the current society has been in existence since 2006. The purpose of the association is to promote collaboration and cooperation between Austrian planetariums, to offer educational and training opportunities for all age groups in the fields of astronomy, natural sciences and space sciences, and to carry out national and international projects in the field of astronomy and related fields of knowledge. Renowned members of the Association of Austrian Planetariums include the Judenburg Planetarium, YourDome Schwaz and the Mobile Planetarium Public Space in Vienna.
The IPS is a global association of planetarium professionals with nearly 700 members from 35 countries worldwide. They represent schools, colleges and universities, museums and public institutions of all sizes, including both fixed and mobile planetariums. The IPS training programmes ‘A Week in the United States’ and ‘A Week with the Society of German-Speaking Planetariums’ are based on a long-standing and successful programme called ‘An Astronomical Experience in Italy for an American Planetarium Operator,’ which is also supported by the IPS. The IPS hopes that these initiatives will serve as a model for other countries and develop over the years into a broader cultural and professional exchange for planetarium operators around the world.
